SEXE.ORG: A Record Setting Sale for $151K

June 17, 2008 by Michael Berkens

We are pleased to announce that we have completed the sale of Sexe.Org for $151,400.

Sexe of course is the french word for sex.

Although we typically do not report our domain sales, we believe this is an important sale, since it is the third highest “adult” non-.com domain ever sold, behind porn.net and sex.net as well as one of the highest prices ever reported for a .org domain.

We congratulate the buyer on their acquisition.

It seems to me that social networking.. esp in the adult space.. has been the hot trend. There have been few competitors to adultffriendfinder which went for 500 mil.

I would think one strategy is to acquire generic “adult” names in .org. And have them point to an adult social networking site. Its a very cheap price for credibility that surrounds the .org tld. Not to mention branding.

Very well worth it. If this domain was listed for auction at TRAFFIC Paris or any other auction the initial response would have been overpriced la dee da / As of January 1, 2008, 64,473,140 people live in the French Republic that does not include countries that speak French as the first language. It begs the question why is that European language .com’s and local codes are so badly represented at TRAFFIC Paris

    Empedocles

I agree this domain would not have sold at the auction.

We sell domains all the time, retail that wouldn’t sell at the auctions. However, I don’t think that is an indictment of the auctions.

    Congrats, Michael.

Can only wonder what that makes sex.org worth.

    Steve

Depends whose buying it, and end user or another domainer

  18. Steve M says

    June 18, 2008 at 8:41 am

I’m thinking $150k-$250k to another domainer; 500k-1 million to an end user.

    Your thoughts?

    Mike,

It also depends on who the seller is. Mike and guys like Rick Schwartz have proven they can get maximum value on their sales.

    Steve,

Sex.com went for $14M last year so $0.5-1M for the .Org looks reasonable to me.

    Steve

I think to another domainer the price of sex.org would be 350K-500K as sex.net and porn.net sold in that price range to domainers at a domain auciton.

I personally think .org have more value than .net, but certainly at least as much.

I like sex.org better than sex.net, assuming both had the same traffic levels.

To an end user, if I owned the domain I would ask for offers in the seven figures
