AU Publication Says Trump Is the World’s Largest Domain Holder with 3,600 Domains

November 4, 2016 by Michael Berkens

The Australian publication Channelnews.com.au, just declared Donald Trump as the “World’s Biggest Owner Of Domain Names”.

Yes according to the story,  The Donald only has over 3,600 domain names.

My God how did no one in the domain industry recognize Mr. Trump as owning the most domain names in the world with 3,600?

In the domain industry we know there are companies that own 1 Million + domains and many that own hundreds of thousands of domains.

Even out little company  sold just 70,000 domains last year or 20X the number of domain names that the “largest holder of domain names in the world owns”.

Here is how the story goes:

“Who is the biggest owner of domain names in the USA. The answer might surprise you – but, then again. perhaps not …

It is – ah, you guessed it – Donald Trump”

“Donald and his Trump Organization have bought up more than 3600 Web addresses”

Most of the domain registrations are defensive in nature which of course all major corporations engage in.

We have called out companies over the year who failed to register a bang on domain name defensive domain registration that the companies had to go after in a UDRP because they let someone else register it.

Compare how the media covered Taylor Swift when she bought defensive .xxx, .porn and .adult domains.

She was praised for her intelligent decisions to defend her brand rather than to allow trolls to register the domains:

Somebody should contact the editor and CEO of Channelnews.com.au and tell him that he don’t know what he is talking about! He might want to start reading “TheDomains.com” to get inform about the industry.

Some of us get to say ‘our little company’ but not someone who has completed one of the largest (top 3?) domain portfolio sales reported in the industry, imo… 😉

“Compare how the media covered Taylor Swift when she bought defensive .xxx, .porn and .adult domains.
She was praised for her intelligent decisions to defend her brand rather than to allow trolls to register the domains:”

…which is a selective comparison among differing news sources.

Taylor Swift was criticized for going after the guy who taught her to play guitar:

But I can’t imagine how anyone could have been told that something Trump owns is the biggest, best, etc..
