.Eu Issues 2nd Quarter Report & Ends Quarter with 3.7 Million Registered Domain Names

Eurid,the company behind .EU extension,released its Q2 2013 progress report tonight.(pdf)

The report shows that .EU registrations increased in 13 of the 28 EU Member States to reach 3.70 million domain names

Bulgaria,Slovenia and Austria saw a growth of more than 5%, however total number of .Eu registrations actually declined in the 2nd quarter despite a renewal rate of 85% .

During Q2 2013, the number of .eu registrations decreased by 18,837 domain names, a net loss of 0.5%, to 3.70 million.

The total number of .eu domain names registered at the end of Q2 represented an increase of 2.8%, or 101 964 registrations, when compared with the total number at the end of Q2 2012.

The number of Internationalised Domain Names (IDNs) in the .eu portfolio at the end of Q2 2013 was 57,910, or 1.6% of all registrations.

The number of IDNs as a percentage of new registrations is at the same level as that of other registries.

By the end of the quarter there were a total of 774 .eu accredited registrars, the top ten registrars accounted for 37% of all .eu registrations.

The national ccTLD market in EU countries increased by 0.8% during Q2 2013, and grew by 4.4% from Q2 2012.

Within the EU, the market for gTLD domain names such as .com, .net, .org, .info and .biz grew by 1.7% during Q2 2013 and by 3.4% from Q2 2012, according to statistics from Zooknic.

In April The EURid Board approved the applications of four new bodies to become EURid members; the European Communities Trademark Association (ECTA), the Interactive Advertising Bureau Europe (IAB Europe), the Confederation of European Computer User Associations (CECUA) and the European Multi- channel and Online Trade Association (EMOTA). EURid further strengthened its Strategic Commit- tee with one more member in June: The Europe- an Association of Craft, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (UEAPME).

Eurid also started a new Google Display campaign on May 3rd and will run until July 5th in 13 EU countries: Sweden, Romania, Poland, Spain, Italy, Greece, Hungary, France, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands.

To be consistent with the new airport billboards, the campaign slogan is, “The perfect match for your business. Click to secure your .eu domain today!”
