Breaking: .Com Domain Name Registrations Top 110 Million Mark For The 1st Time

August 27, 2013 by Michael Berkens

For the first time in the history of the Internet there are no more than 110,000,000 .com domain names registered according to Verisign.

As of 8:36:10 AM UTC there are now over  110,024,017 active .com domain names registered.

According to Verisign the registry of the .com and .net domain name extensions or Top Level Domains (TLD)  the number of active .com registrations passed the 110 Million Mark for the first time ever just a little while ago.

It was just on August 15th that Verisign announced that  total .Net domain name registration topped 15 Million for the first time.

To be clear the information was taken from the Verisign Daily Zone Count Numbers published by Verisign.

“The daily zone count numbers represent the number of active domain names and the number of domain names that are registered but not configured for use in the respective Top-Level Domain zone file (“not configured domain names”). ”

“The number of active domain names includes domain names that, at the time of publication, were recently registered and subject to a 5-day grace period, during which the domain names may be deleted and a credit may be issued to a registrar (the “add grace period”). ”

“The daily zone count numbers change frequently and are updated in their respective zone file, and on this page, at least once per day. The update times may vary each day.”

“Today’s zone file numbers are not necessarily indicative of results that may be expected for the current financial quarter or year.”
