Overstock Launches O.co Travel & Picks Priceline To Run It

January 4, 2012 by Michael Berkens

While many domainers have written off O.co, it appears Overstock.com has not.

According to a press release issued yesterday, Overstock has just selected the Priceline Partner Network, a unit of priceline.com (Nasdaq: PCLN), to power Overstock’s new travel website, called O.co Travel.

“”O.co Travel customers will have access to a robust collection of travel services from the Priceline Partner Network, including:

  • Priceline’s Name Your Own Price® travel services that can deliver savings of up to 60% off hotel rooms, up to 40% off flights and up to 40% off rental cars;
  • The ability to book published-price hotel rooms through thousands of  quality chain and independent hotels around the world. O.co Travel customers also will have access to Priceline’s extensive database of hotel freebies, including instant discounts, free breakfast, free Internet access, and more;
  • The ability to book rental car reservations worldwide. O.co Travel will also support rental car company discount codes;
  • Airline ticketing with almost all major airlines through priceline.com.  This service includes seat mapping, the ability to book different classes of seats, and it supports airline frequent flier numbers,
  • A broad lineup of money-saving air & hotel vacation packages. When air and hotel are booked together, customers can save up to $500 compared to booking separately.”

“Our partnership with priceline.com allows us to offer customers an in-depth travel site,” said Overstock.com President Jonathan Johnson. “We constant receive customer feedback and tailor our offerings to these customer preferences. With Priceline’s lineup of travel services, including Name Your Own Price, our customers can be sure they’re getting the best travel deals available on the Internet today.”

“Overstock.com has built a brand that’s known for saving consumers money across a broad spectrum of products,” said Randy Schartner, President of the Priceline Partner Network. “We believe that Priceline’s broad array of travel services, which are also focused on delivering savings, will fit well with Overstock.com’s products and mission. We look forward to working with them.”

    I can see Joe consumer at home now thinking…

    What was that site again??? o.com/travel no wait, oco.com, crap no… ahh ocotravel.com? nope… oh right priceline.com.

    By the way http://o.co/travel takes you to overstock.com/travel.

    Brilliant.

    Have the press release THEN launch o.co/travel later.

    Start your list of 2012 internet marketing blunders with this one!

    That is huge news – especially in an industry which is not competitive and not saturated with folks like “everybody” that is getting into travel.

    So they are launching a travel portal on O.co using Priceline’s affiliate program?
    What a blockbuster. LOL

    Why wouldn’t people just go to Priceline.com?

    I doubt this use of O.co will be any more successful than their re-branding effort.

    Why go to O.co for travel picks when you can go to coTravel.co instead? 😉

    Like I’ve said in the past, the rebranding effort was a bust and they’ve wisely moved on. No longer do they indicate o.co to be a shortcut for Overstock.com as they had been displaying at the top of their site’s pages. Pack er up, it’s over. They buried the name wherever they could to squeeze anything out of all the promotion they did for it.

    They have O.biz too and it doesn’t just redirect to a page on Overstock.com as the o.co does. Probably just held onto the o.co brand because of the stadium naming investment, commercial promotion investment, and the fact that it can be used to bolster any claim they might make should o.com become available.

    .co nation weeps.

    that makes the less endowed jealous.

    you can just sense it when they go on and on trying to over-compensate. Less is more my friend.

    Overstock’s stock price was around $16 a year ago last Jan. when they initiated the rebranding to O.co, today it closed at a 52 week low of $7.51, ouch. Oh the humanity. Less is more, Mr. Cline. Zing.

    .CO is a “rising super star” in the same way that old Starsky & Hutch episodes are a promising new show.

    there is an old psychology problem, I forget the exact term, but you will get my point.

    for example, your girlfriend farts when she passes by your face at the same time the market nose dive’s 600 points,

    so you say my girlfriend’s farting to my face caused the market to nose dive. nice causal effect right ?

    The real important things that are foretelling are sales like

    LGO.Co selling for $1,870.oo

    GNV.Co selling for $1,500.00

    GEV.Co selling for $3,000.00

    One-letter domain names are kinda funny. They get a lot of noise, but they don’t get much traction unless they content is relevant to users. X.com, for example, is where Paypal’s API can be found. Not quite a household domain.
