According to a post on Paidcontent.org, Blip.tv has dropped the .Tv from its name and now rebranded as just Blip.

“”Online video network Blip.tv announced a $12-million round of funding, and a rebranding. Now it’s known simply as “Blip.”

I went to DomainTools.com and see that Blip Networks, Inc. acquired the domain name Blip.com in August of 2011 from Marvel Characters, Inc.

Of course we don’t know what Blip paid for Blip.com but now that they own both the .Com and .Tv domain name they simply changed their domain to Blip which they couldn’t have done if they didn’t own the .com

Interestingly enough Blip.com forwards to Blip.Tv not the other way around.

YouTube.com has posted the first 96 Original channels that will be starting to roll out starting next month over the next year.

Among those listed on YouTube.com as coming channels are:

Freemantle the producer of American Idol

The Wall Street Journal

Car and Driver Television

Style on Location

WWE Fan Nation channel

Soccer United Marketing will launch Kick TV.

Reuters.com news channel

Slate will have Slate News Central

Bleacher Report

Car and Driver Television

Lionsgate Fitness Channel

Demand Media has a number of eHow channels including Livestrong

Motor Trend

Pitchfork TV

START a New video games channel, hosted by IGN Entertainment, for anyone who loves or plays games.

The Red Bull channel chronicles the competition and daily lives of the world’s best action sports athletes.

So the question is with YouTube.com coming out with TV channels will this give a boost to .TV domains.

I would think so.

Creation of TV channels by YouTube.com should increase the demand for generic .TV domains.

Your thoughts are always welcome.…

.TV Registry Changes Policy To Take Back Any Expired 1 Character Domain As They Take Back G.TV

Over last weekend the super premium one letter .TV domain name G.TV was suppose to drop as the former owner failed to renew it.

However instead of dropping the domain for what would have been a one time payment of $4,750, the domain name was taken back by the .TV registry and not allowed to drop.

Verisign owns the .TV registry.

We chatted with the .TV Registry who informed TheDomains.com that they now have implemented a policy that will intercept any one character .TV domain from dropping ever again.

Instead the .TV registry intends to reclaim any single character domain from ever dropping and putting any of them, like G.tv into the registry reserved status.

While the .TV Registry was quick to tell us they have reserved every one character .TV domain that will ever drop, what they will do with those domains is far from certain.

The .TV Registry did not disclose if or how they plan to sell these single character domain names.

As the Registry, they are well within their rights to not allow these domains to drop and to take them back and put them into reserved status, but it certainly will shrink the available pool of 1 character domains and therefore make those single character .TV domains currently held by domainers much more valuable.

If you ever on Jeopardy and are asked what was the last single character .TV domain that was allowed to drop, the answer would be 9.TV which dropped and was picked up for a one time renewal fee in early May.

A couple of .Tv sites are in the news today

In a press release, Blip.tv announced it has relaunched its site.

Blip.tv also announced today that it has reached more than three billion views to date, making it one of the Internet’s largest independently owned and operated video properties.

Blip.tv is now on pace to reach one billion views per quarter.

Wow

Another .TV was in the news today is Bee.TV which just raised another $1.5 million in funding after receiving $8 Million in funding two years ago.

“BeeTV lets people interact with each other while watching the same TV show or movie, and get more information straight from the same app (think news, gossip, fan pages and so on). The app also lets users rate and get personalized recommendations for TV shows.”…

SnapNames.com is holding a Online auction of premium .TV domain names including many 2 letter .TV domains.

The auction started at noon EST today and closes on March 23rd at 3:15PM EST.

There are a lot of 2 letter and 2 number .TV domains and the reserve ranges for most of them are $200-$500.

All of these domains comes with a normal registration fee.

While most of the domain in this auction are registry owned, there are also some privately owned domains included as well.

Some of the non- 2 letter/number domain names which caught my eye include, Attorneys.TV, Lawyers.TV, Infomercials.TV and Stocks.TV

One domain gg.tv already has a bid at $300 and has meet reserve, so it appears the 2 letter .TV domains reserve is actually $300 per.

BMW just gave the .TV extension another big boost by rolling out BMW.tv. in a last few months

It looks like the car manufacturer has owned the domain for a while but its was directed to BMW.com.

However now the site which is chocked full of videos of its cars and is being featured in as the go to URL in television commercials plus viral videos submitted by enthusiasts.

Take a look at bmw.tv and then take a look bmw.com and the US site bmwusa.com and let me know what you think the best and most effective of the bunch is or where a car shopper would spend most if there time if they were in the market for a new car.…

The Domain Name MTS.TV just sold on a Sedo.com auction today for a whopping $33,700.

The auction had 3 bidders battling it out through the $20′s and $30′s before closing at $33,700.

Its one of the higher priced .Tv sales I have seen in a while.

At first blush a lot of domainers might not understand As to whom would want or pay anything near this much for a three letter .TV domain.

However there seems to be at least 3 large communications companies in different parts of the World named MTS.

MTS.ca is a Canadian communications company that offers wireless, data and on demand TV and a product called “MTS Ultimate TV Service”

Another possible buyer is a company in India which launched something called the MTS TV service in April of this year that allows Video On Demand Services over the Internet.

Finally there is a cable and broadcast company in Russia also called MTS.

Anyway a great .TV sale, congrats to the Seller and the buyer…
