With Domainfest getting ready to kick off tonight, the agenda is full of very interesting people and sessions, the only thing missing seems to be any “domainers”.

In years past both Domainfest and TRAFFIC had a heavy concentration of panels full of domainers as well as others in the domain industry.

As I reviewed the agenda for Domainfest I actually don’t see one “domainer” on the schedule.

There are SEO experts, mobile search experts, representatives of companies inside the industry like Godaddy and Sedo and Oversee.net.

Yet its actually the 1st domain show I can remember where there are no domainers on a panel.

I’m not saying not having domainers serve on any panels is bad thing, its just a new thing.

Looking at the “Dine with an Expert” series once again I don’t see one “domainer” on list of experts available to dine with.

A domain show without any domainers.

Interesting…

Just got a email from Rick Schwartz one of the organizers of the T.R.A.F.F.I.C. conference announcing that he has opened registration for the show for $995 for the 1st 35 people that register.

It is the domain name show I have regularly attended since its inception and I already bought one of the 35 discounted tickets.

Here is the entire announcement:

“”"”T.R.A.F.F.I.C. 2012 is coming in October! If you presently don’t plan to attend, give me 5 minutes to possibly change your mind starting with a $995 registration fee available to the first 35 people that register and why your attendance could be life changing as that has always been our goal. Folks have been coming for 8 years because they do significant deals, have a good time and make money. A very special group sharing very special Information.

Beginning at Noon TODAY we are opening Registration for T.R.A.F.F.I.C. 2012 at the Ritz Carlton in Fort Lauderdale. October 7th -10th with our Cabana Networking starting on Friday, October 5th. Our agenda? We have none, YET. However, as we have done 22 times before over the past 8 years, we will let it all unfold throughout the year. We will work each day until October to ensure that T.R.A.F.F.I.C. 2012 will not only be as good as our last shows but even better and will continue to break new ground. We will do it all right in front of your eyes in a very transparent manner. As usual, we will tackle the toughest issues we face and share thoughts on how to navigate through it.

T.R.A.F.F.I.C. 2012 starts with the best networking cocktail party in the Industry, and we do everything we can to facilitate business by bringing the “Biggest and Best” together in an atmosphere and venue conducive to doing relaxed business and wrap it up in the perfect location. Then we make it easy for you to do deals. What we sell is YOUR success and T.R.A.F.F.I.C. moves the ball forward for all who attend. Our only goal is to further the agenda of everyone who attends and that force pushes our industry forward in a meaningful way. T.R.A.F.F.I.C. is not just a show. It’s the only MAJOR Domain Industry show run by domainers for domainers. T.R.A.F.F.I.C. has always done things differently and will continue to be there for you and your business because T.R.A.F.F.I.C. MEANS B.U.S.I.N.E.S.S.!

Sponsors continue to be rewarded for understanding the mindset of domain investors and providing tools and hopefully breaking new ground to assist them.…

When I woke up this morning I would never have thought I would have to write a post critical of another blogger.

Having come off the high of winning the blogger of the year award and accepting on behalf of all domain bloggers recognizing the time, work, commitment and criticism we voluntarily subject ourselves too, the LAST thing I wanted to do, especially today, is call another blogger out.

Oh well.

So I read Owen Frager’s post this morning about his experience at the TRAFFIC conference entitled simply, but brutally “TRAFFIC Sucked”, which was quickly endorsed by DomainGang.com, in its post entitled “Frager Factor calls it like it is” even though the author was NOT in attendance at TRAFFIC (confirmed with DomainGang.com).

I found Owen’s post to be internally conflictive, and very inconsistent in its statements and conclusions

Worse, actually much worse, it wasn’t just an attack on the TRAFFIC conference but on the entire domain industry.

An attack that could not go unanswered.

Owen in his post writes:

“What I witnessed was an industry defeated.”

“”Noticeably absent were many of the colorful players of the past.”

“This time it was an industry downsized.

“Vendors in booths with nothing to offer.”

“No differentiation.”

“They seem to be running on fumes.”

Owen apparently see’s the industry differently than I do.

I saw a new face in the industry on stage one who has invested over $20 million so far in the domain space and plans on investing another $20 Million next year.

His name was Stuart Lawley and he is CEO of the ICM Registry.

Yes .XXX.

Stuart by his own admission is not from the domain industry, nor is he from the adult industry.

He is a very successful self made businessman whom from very humble beginnings started a company, turned it into a public company, and cashed out for what an amount most of us could only dream of.

Stuart is a guy who could have at a young age called it a day and had a very luxurious life.

Yet Stuart decided to forgo 40 years of lying on the beach with an umbrella drink in his hand.

Stuart who could have gone into any business on earth, picked the domain business.

Stuart is excited and rightly so.

He isn’t running on fumes

Stuart is full petal to the metal just like the driver of the .XXX race boat pressing full on against choppy waters.…

Just a quick note to thank all of you our readers; the commentators; and all of you that voted TheDomains.com as the Best Domain Blog at TRAFFIC yesterday.

Both Judi and I are quite touched to receive the honor.

Special thanks to the organizers of the TRAFFIC show Rick, Howard and to Barbara and Alina, Ray and Kim without whose very hard work the TRAFFIC show would not be possible.

Also a special shout out to Adam Matuzich and Ray Neu, who keep the blog up and running and all of our advertisers who support us.

Finally we want to congratulate all the bloggers who received a nomination.

Publishing a material daily for 330 out of 365 days a years, is as you would image a huge amount of work as is moderating the tens of thousands of comments our readers generously contribute, but as Adam Dicker, one of the Domain Hall of Fame inductees this year stated so eloquently “If you love what you do you never will work a day in your life.”

You can see a list of all the nominee’s and winners of the TRAFFIC award on Ricksblog.com.

UPDATE: I was informed by the owner of the domain names that sold “conditionally” at the auction, MovieTheater.com and MovieTheatre.com for $45,000 that he did NOT accept the lower sales price and therefore these domain did NOT sell and have been removed and the sales figures adjusted.

The live domain name Auction from the TRAFFIC show just concluded with about $240,000 in sales of which $77K were for .XXX domains.

I think the lack of online bidding hurt the overall sales figures.

Several of the domain names owners paid to have their domains placed into the auction.

I’m not sure too many of those sold and therefore decreased the overall sell through rate.

Here is the unofficial list.

Also note that several of the domain sold conditionally slightly below the sellers reserve and are subject to sellers final approval.
