Name.com Screws Up On Promo Code & Gives “Thousands” Of Free .Com/Net’s

Prior to the announced sale of Name.com to Demand Media, Inc, it appears Name.com had an issue with a promo code which allowed “thousands” of .com and .net registrations and renewals to go through at zero cost earlier this month

In a video posted on YouTube.com, Ashley an employee of name.com apologizes for the error:

We had a problem with our January Promo Code “xxoo” which resulted in thousands of free .com .net registrations and renewals at zero cost which was unintended…sometimes we make mistakes, we are truly sorry for any inconvenience and appreciate your support.”

Its not clear from the video what happened to those who got the “free” registrations and/or renewals but it seems as they were billed for them after.

I went thru the food store the other day – King Soopers (Kroger) – actually just down the road from Name.com – and the automated machine gave me 4 ($5) in change instead of 4 ($1). Instead of going thru to the same auto checkout machine over and over geting my $20 in change instead of $4 – I advised the head guy there :)

Point is, in my world, Karma will smack you hard in the face when you abuse an flawed electronic system – shame on those who abused that promo code.
