The Next BIG Thing Is 3D: Who Owns Best Domains? (Hint: Its not Me, Frank, Kevin Or Even Rick )
I sure blew this one.
But at least I’m not alone.
The next big thing is going to be 3D.
3D was the talk of the Consumers Electronic Show in Vegas in January.
3d Tv’s are already on sale and the World Cup was broadcast by Directv in 3D.
ESPN is launching its own 3D channel any day now on Directv.
Yup its going to be huge and I missed to boat completely.
However it doesn’t look like I’m alone.
Looking through the best 3D domains I could think of it doesn’t look like Frank, Kevin or even Rick locked up any of the best 3D domains or at least what I consider to be the best of the best.
I thought it would be interesting to take a look to see who owns the best of the 3D domains.
Lets start with the 5 star domain for the topic, 3D.com.
Its owned under privacy at Network Solutions.
The domain name was created all the way back in 1994.
The domain goes to a Net Sol, parked page so whoever owns it, isn’t making any money off of it, and it does get thousands of visitors a month according to Compete and Alexa.
A Waste.
3DTV.COM Is owned by an end user, Brad Beckerman of Beverly Hills, California
Its actually a pretty cool flash site you should check it out.
3DTELEVISION.COM and 3DGlasses.com are owned by an end user, Deep Vision 3D, of Hollywood, CA, although the 3dtelevision.com domain is not resolving properly for me the company sells 3DGlasses on the 2nd domain.
The domain, 3-DGLASSES.COM is owned by an end user, Theatric Support of Studio City, California
3DTVS.COM is registered to Jon Schultz of Blue String Ventures, Inc.
The domain, 3-dtv.com goes to a parked page and is under privacy.
Ted Amaradidis of Delray Beach Florida, owns 3-DMOVIES.COM and 3Dmovies.com and 3Dmovies.tv
3DTELEVISIONS.COM is owned by domainer, Gregg Ostrick of GNO, Inc.
3DSPORTS.COM is owned by our good friend Chad Folkening of Ecorp.
3DMOVIETHEATERS.COM is owned by Ralf Schumacher, who is another fellow I know pretty well.
3DTHEATERS.COM is owned by a Daniel Symmes of Woodland Hills, CA and is another domain not resolving properly.
The domain name, 3DADVERTISING.COM is owned by our good friend Stephen Douglas of Success Click.
The domain 3dprojectors.com is owned by Scott Bennett of Glasgow who is using it for a blog.
3DGAMES.COM is owned by another good friend and ICANN’s worst nightmare, George Kirikos.
3D.TV and 3-D.Tv are both owned by a Guy named Ben Geren.
(If you are not familiar with Mr. Geren He also owns some of the best possible .FM domains, including Rock.FM, HipHop.FM, Classical.FM, and Country.FM, ClassicRock.FM, and Oldies.FM just to name a few as well as some pretty good .TV Domains including, wireless.tv, channels.tv. concerts.tv and cinema.tv)
Congrats boys, you own part of the future and you all kicked my ass.

GIA announces the release of a comprehensive global report on Online Movies market. World Online Movies market is forecast to reach $4.44 billion by the year 2017. Growth in the post recession period will be driven by continued penetration of broadband Internet, rising consumer spending on digital rentals, and introduction of advanced 3D to home markets.
http://www.prweb.com/releases/online_movies/video_on_demand_VOD/prweb8335865.htm
@ MHB interesting point that online movies are “one of the cheapest forms of entertainment.” Supposed to be the movie industry did well in the depression as well, because of escapism.
Talk about movies, is anyone going to see, Rio? Topped the box office a 2nd week.
To the person who donated $1000.00, I’m going to have to have Paypal send it back. I meant, SMALL donation. Thank you.

Nintendo Can’t Sell The 3DS And It’s Your Fault
http://www.crunchgear.com/2011/04/27/nintendo-cant-sell-the-3ds-and-its-your-fault/
a 3D device may have unlimited apps … they only need to buy some good ideas to sell more …
Question:
I recieved a low-ball offer on 3dsigner.com on Sedo this morning.
I want to know what to offer in return.
Considerations: 3ddesigner.com (estibot 7200), designer.com (estibot 541,000), designer.co.uk sold on sedo (123,000), designer.de sold on sedo (74,000)
Where does 3dsigner.com fit?
@3d-d.de
Firstly…never read into automated appraisals say, they are a joke
I would counter but not much more, this name doesn’t really make sense to me and is not in the same range as “3D Designer”, mainly because yours says “3D Signer”…which isn’t really a word…unless they are looking at the “3D signs” angle…if its a say $60 offer, I would counter with a $200 maybe and take the money its accepted.
Just my opinion though
thanks Giles
some 3D domains may sell well only in the near future, maybe 2-3 years
UPDATE
BIG AUCTION NEWS:
http://www.thedomains.com/2011/04/27/calling-all-3d-domain-owners-fans-future-trend-domain-auction%E2%84%A2-set-for-snapnames-showcase-auction-for-june/
Counter triple for 3DSigner!
1) “Hack” brands are in! Skype, Reddit, eBay, Bing, 3alityDesigns . . .
2) 3D is all about Holograms, is all about security, is all about distinguishing the real from the counterfit.
3) Triple low-ball offer is not that much. Counter, and see what happens!
May I amend that? Counter with $1000.00. 3DSigner is a brand. They all want it.
thanks Louise
I countered substantially, very substantially higher that $1,000.00
If negotiations stop, so be it.
thank you
Hi, I’m relieved. Good for you! I was just going to post, $1000.00 is low. 3Designer is on Snapnames at $2588.00 BIN, but 3DSigner is nicer, shorter! Many extensions of 3DSign are taken, and the dot net of 3DSinger.
@ MHB, Thanx for article! On my site there is a nice video of Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime’s appearance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon to demo the Nintendo augmented reality games – you have to see it to believe it! People don’t realize all the facets of Nintendo3DS.
no disrespect intended 3d-d / louise
…but 3dsigner is better then 3designer????
‘substantially higher’ than $1,000??
c’mon now
it’s great to be excited about your name(s)
… but Gravity is an amazing thing sometimes
maybe i just don’t understand or maybe it’s an area that i am not all too familiar with… very possible… and if so, i will reconsider
… so i ask you both
to explain to me WHY – prove me wrong.
Okay, let me take a stab at explaining the value of 3Dsigner!
Domainers have influenced the market in domains in more ways than one!
1) startups without lots of cash settle for the misspell or an abbreviation when domains are registered:
Flicker ==> Flickr
EchoBay ==> eBay
Skyper ==> Skype
When the domain is not available, small companies have made do. The domain industry is so misunderstood and hated, it got to be a badge of creativity for companies to think up names which AREN’T registered, such as:
Reddit
Etsy
theDailyBeast
So there are TWO Categories left to register, not just keyword match domains, but catchy, brand domains, which have nothing to do with keyword.
That’s the talent of people who comment here! Where is the value in i-Holo? i-Hologram? HoloBuzz? Holorati? CloudCo? BendeBooks? They have value! They’re registered by people who post here. At first, I didn’t understand. Now I get it. 3d-d has talent for registering catchy trend brand domains. 3Dsign is a great example!
Real companies in film:
3alityDigital
3DEyeSolutions
BluLaserDigital
BluFocus
Da-Lite – You get the picture! View the dot com of each of the names.
Variety makes baseball, and everyone here has talent, whether brand or generic search.
More examples: In-Three, HDLogix, Holografica – part of my master end user list! On Techmeme: Quora, Gowalla, Fring, Zynga, Viewdle – who heard of these? The startups are going after unique names. So, there is a place for hand regging catchy uniques.
@Louise
Talent, me? You are perhaps being t0o kind to me.
It makes me a little uncomfortable when I see you being called out here on this thread. I hope that your hard work and good nature, not to mention, considerable “domainaccumen” are in and of themselves strength enough to keep perspective and faith in the face of critism. Thank you for your kind words.
I reg’d 3dsigner because 3Designer was taken. In light of your reasoning given in your last two posts, maybe I have the best one, surprise.
Hats off to Mr. Douglas eh? A Professional in the true sense of the word.
I feel truly blessed to have stumbled upon this thread.
The kindness and guidance offered me is humbling, thankyou Louise, Stephen and MHB
cheers
What do you think of 3Dbooks 3Dbook there are apps for Ereaders that are 3D now and the Koreans developed an actual 3D Ebook and should be on the market soon.
@Tricky, yes, you’re talented!
If the people come back with another offer closer to your counter offer, maybe you could accept that . . . rather than hang on to a domain to find out your asking price isn’t reasonable for the target user . . . It’s nice to do business and have a sale underneath you!

Phone Printing
@3dsmartphone
Re:Phoneprinting.com, personally I think that’s a very good one. IPhone cases are one of the more commonly printed items within the 3dp communities, and in years to come there’s talk of being able to print circuitry, leading to complete manufacture of gadgets from within the home….
@HGportfolio
I didnt mean printing phones, printing from phones, printing on the go type thing, documents etc…….set to be big.
….I did upload a you tube video but its still awaiting moderation, see above in a min.

3d|Test|Drive.com
nice starting point, but nothing to be too excited about just yet as i am turning this down… counter will be minimum $xx,xxx
thinking $20k – TOO much versatility – agreed?
higher? – Lower?
@MHB – your thoughts?
@ MHB, Lots of things going on re 3D!
@ DomainNames3D, That’s good news – congratulations!

This technology allows you to “mould images onto printed media around a shaped object, using a combination of infrared heating and vacuum pressure to mould the image into shape and could be used in a number of different applications, including graphic design for car parts, consumer electronics, sports gear, packaging, household appliances, architectural features, fashion products, laptops and mobile phone covers.”
I wonder how much loss in value is caused by hyphens in a good 3d domain name. See some hyphenated names in the blog above and in some comments.
How do you rank these by quality: 3dname, 3-dname, 3d-name, 3-d-name?
Very Cool

the price of Bloggie 3D is reasonable, so, it will be a big success
I know this seems a bit off topic but since 4K HD TVs are on the rise. This video is at CES 2011 and it is discussed about 3D TVs without glasses and how they have to come from 4K HD TVs.
Anyways… watch the vid to see what I am talking about.

If we take this guy at what he said, this my be where 3D without glasses is going to come from.
Just and FYI
Cheers
Thanx, @ MHB, good news on 3DBloggie for 3DYoutube and content world . . .
@Slate, nice video – thanx! I bookmarked it in my “QuadTV” folder along with other references, for my QuadTelevision.com website. 4K seems to be the catch phrase, tho! “Quad Full High Definition (QFHD), at 3840 x 2160 pixels” – wikipedia

Hi,
I had to sit on this a while….but it is quite ‘mind blowing’
Google maps about to become ‘old school’…..
____
New Maps Use Military Strength 3D technology
“Compared to the Google Earth view we are used to seeing online, the C3 view is complete and so accurate, you can make out 4-inch objects. In Google Earth, on the other hand, entire buildings are missing.
Some appear only as gray blocks. Google uses humans to draw 3D buildings with something called Building Maker. C3, though, uses airplanes. Whereas, others use lasers to measure from the air, C3 uses cameras and sophisticated software to turn photographs into high-resolution 3D”

I think you’re full of it and bluffing. All you do is talk about what you’re turning down and how many millions you’re going to make. I for one don’t believe you.
@ Dan, c3 did the maps for Nokia as well: http://conversations.nokia.com/2011/04/19/ovi-maps-3d-the-world-is-not-flat
@ Richard_SF, who are you to say? Did PalmTopTheater_com not just receive an offer of EU 1000 ? Did CloudCo_com not receive an offer of $7000? They did! How about the traffic on my new project, 3DSLaunchTitles? Registered April 1st, live on the 5th, and it just cleared 1500 uniques! Yay! Conventional names are hurting to get sold, but things are moving right direction with emerging technologies.
