Our Picks & Pans From The DFG Extended Auction Ending Tomorrow

2010 May 19

Last week Moniker.com held a live auction at  DomainFest Ft. Lauderdale and tomorrow, May 20th at 3:15pm EST the extended auction from the show will close on SnapNames.com.

As usual all of the Live auction domains that didn’t sell are back, like jeans.com ($2M starting bid) and  Hobbies.com (min bid at $353K) as well as hundreds of other new domains.

We went through the list and picked out what we felt are the best buys and most interesting “new” domains in this auction as well as some of what we think are the worst domains in the auction based on the reserve prices (except for one domain which we hate even at no reserve).

Best of luck to all bidders and sellers.

For the record, we have no domains in the auction:

Most interesting domains with reserve ranges:

BikerMagazine.com $1001-$2500
CreditClinic.com $5,001 – $10,000

I really liked LongestDriver.com until I looked up the search volume. 700 local searches? At this time of year, I would have thought that to be a much more popular search phrase.

    IdentityRestoration.com it should be…

BTW, from my experience, the starting bid is the ending bid about 90% of the time. However, every transaction from the push to auction has been completed. Buyers might be pissed but they still go through it.

Even thought it would probably take a little more time, it would also no doubt be usefull to go through the list and pick out what you feel are the 10-20 best buys in terms of price/quality in the “LOWER” reserve ranges (i.e. $1 – $5K) as not all domain investors have low $xxx, xxx to spend on a domain.

I went through the entire list as I always do.

If I saw a low priced name I liked I would have listed it

I really like TaxProblem.com. Hasn’t everybody had a “tax problem” sometime in there life. I can see this name someday flipping to an tax attorney for a great ROI.

    Thanks, Jim

LongestDriver jumped out at me too. It’s one of those names that runs deeper than it’s search volume alone- it’s a fantastic marketing tool and one of those names whose value would probably be easily understood by the most relevant end users.

I couldn’t care less about it’s total volume as much as I do if it’s an end-user virgin or not. Spend XXXX on a name and make the end-user rounds, only to have any number reply saying that they ‘already told the last guy they didn’t want it’ and that’s a lesson you don’t have to learn twice.

Either way, in it’s reserve range, I’m sure someone will gamble on it.
