Google Publishes Its Own SEO Report Card & Gives Itself Some Failing Grades
Google just released its own SEO Report Card.
In a 49 page report it rates the search engine optimization (SEO) on its various properties including the Google search home page and gives itself a failing grade in a number of categories.
One of the biggest areas of failure for is in “search result presentation,” where Google scored itself with a score of 33 out of 100 or lower in three different categories.
Here is how the report is describe by Google, you should check out the full report:
“”How many of Google’s web pages use a descriptive title tag?
Do we use description meta tags?
Heading tags?
While we always try to focus on the user, could our products use an SEO tune up?
These are just some of the questions we set out to answer with Google’s SEO Report Card.
Google’s SEO Report Card is an effort to provide Google’s product teams with ideas on how they can improve their products’ pages using simple and accepted optimizations. These optimizations are intended to not only help search engines understand the content of our pages better, but also to improve our users’ experience when visiting our sites. Simple steps such as fixing 404s and broken links, simplifying URL choice, and providing easier-to-understand titles and snippets for our pages can benefit both users and search engines. From the start of the project we also wanted to release the report card publicly so other companies and webmasters could learn from the report, which is filled with dozens of examples taken straight from our products’ pages.
The project looked at the main pages of 100 different Google products, measuring them across a dozen common optimization categories. Future iterations of the project might look at deeper Google product web pages as well as international ones. We released the report card within Google last month and since then a good number of teams have taken action on it or plan to.”"”

Thank Michal. That is a very valuable document indeed.
I have a feeling google chrome browser won’t be good for type-in domain names.
What do you think?
You are spot on.
In the name of helping the web surfer (at least the new web surfer wanabe) the google browser once installed will suggest a particular website / domain name to the person which types in some letters into that browser (google will sell those ads to their advertisers and make BIG money that way).
The SMART web surfer will not fall for the crap google style but instead will type in the FULL web address / domain name into the browser and get to the website he or she has chosen – this is what I do.
Surf the Web the Smart way – Simple things in life are meant to be simple and Easy.
