The domain NewYorkMortgage.com sold for $12,877 on NameJet.com today,  to lead the pack, closely followed by  GlobalOne.com which sold today or $10K.

The term Global One has several trademarks and there are plenty of companies doing business under a variation of this name and was a the name of a huge European telecommunication company until it got bought and absorbed in 2001.

The domain KL.org sold for under $7K, while you guys were sleeping, which maybe the lowest price paid for a  2 letter .org in a LONG time.

Here are the details including other notable sales from NameJet.com over the last few days:

Controllers.com $9,100

Daj.com $7,000

KL.org $6,800 (re-auction)

People are FINALLY realizing that domains with little to no type-in traffic aren’t worth anything – just because it’s 2-letters and rare, doesn’t mean it’s worth squat.

Does K1.org get any type-in traffic at all? VERY doubtful. So the reasons someone would ever buy it are dramatically marginalized.

And what does Globalone.com which sold for $10K mean exactly?

Newyorkmortgage.com for 13k, that is the geo deal I have seen in years. You don’t need a business card when your walking around and you tell people you own that name. Easy to remember and spell.

Plus the the two keyword combination is unreal considering loan and mortgage clicks can cost around 10 to 20 bucks a click.

2 closed mortgage apps will pay for the deal. That name is worth well over 100k in my opinion.

Damn I wish I knew NewYorkMortgage.com was up for bidding. That is a steal.

    What’s so great about newyorkmortgage??

I only see 8 advertisers on Google with an estimated 100 searches/mo. And “mortgage” doesn’t even make sense by itself – maybe if it was “mortgage rate” or “mortgage calculator” or “mortgage loan.” People are buying combination of keywords that don’t even make sense but because type-in traffic name are so rare (especially in dropcatching) they’re just buying whatever they can – and wasting their money.

MHB – globalone.com was a clearly a purchase by cybersquatters (or whatever you call domainers who exploit traffic from bankrupt companies) .

I think there is definitely value in newyorkmortgage. But the big question is with proper SEO and development how quickly can it get to the first page of google where it will belong. I just hope whoever bought this domain uses it properly and not just a parked page.

dcmike77 – What’s the best way to find out how many searches for a given keyword?

demike77, I wish I had conferred with you before wasting all that money on NewYorkMortgage.com. Until today, I didn’t realize that “domains with little to no type-in traffic aren’t worth anything.”

I also didn’t realize only 8 Google advertisers were targeting the term “New York Mortgage.” I must’ve been mistaken when I performed this Goggle advertiser assay: http://www.google.com/sponsoredlinks?q=%22new+york+mortgage&hl=en&safe=off&rlz=1B3GGGL_enUS294US294&num=100&um=1&ie=UTF-8

And your estimated 100 Google searches/mo. for “New York Mortgage?” Damn, I guessed there were at least twice that many! Turns out we were both wrong. 301,000 Google searches in July. I’m sure the Google Keyword Tool just made a silly mistake. It’s probably only 100 searches, like you said.

Anyway, now that I know I wasted all that money, I guess I’ll let the domain drop next year and spare myself another wasted 7 bucks.

I’m kinda new to this business. Still learning. I’ll try to pay closer attention to those infomercial cassette tapes, so someday I can become a savvy domain name millionaire like you.

Wow, thanks Mike!! But I think I’m gonna hold out and see if I can work an even swap for DomainNameAccountant.com. Or maybe one of those really good two-word names like RentalSuit.com.

I guess you’ll now be dropping all those worthless domains in your portfolio with little to no type-in traffic? :)

Regards to Judi. See you guys in Cherry Hill in January.

Can someone tell me how much Tyrese.com ended at on Pool.com today? It hasn’t shown up in my history yet.

2 letter .com/net/.org are worth something with or without traffic IMO.
New York Mortgage is excellent IMO and needs no other word to go with. Congrats Scott.

I continue to learn something new every day. I have been making purchases this year and didn’t even consider that Google had a sponsored link tool for search terms. I could have been using that all along, but better to learn late than never. Thanks for adding that in your post Scott.

Given the changes in the mortgage industry (lead generation), monetizing the site is more challenging from an roi angle…the mortgage vertical is amongst the hardest to crack for organic traffic. Its a nice domain, but could take some time to recoup the costs and I am a bit skepticle that it received 300k searches, more likely, it was included in the search terms new york mortgage/rates/lenders/brokers/ etc… The name would be great for an end user, but too many brokers simply are in the dark when it comes to branding & online marketing

I just acquired NewYorkMortgageLoan.com and NewYorkMortgageLoans.com for about 10% of the price of NewYorkMortgage.com.

    :)
