Hi Mikey-B,

See my report on your fantastic purchases at TSV, especially regarding campingequipment.com.

I don't think I'm a dummy. Obnoxious maybe, but no dummy. Congrats on some great purchases!

Moniker had more quality domains but the better deals were at Rick Latona's. For example, BreakfastBars.com would've gotten $10-15k on Moniker instead of $1300 (great buy for Rick S). Same thing with Gauze.com instead of $3750.

The take home message is buy at Rick's, sell at Moniker.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Just fascinating that category and product names are going for these prices - almost like we are back 5 years ago - great buying opportunties." -Alan

There are plenty of deals to be had every day on the level of 5 yrs ago. They're just more of them now and in more places.

"steakknives.com - too many “K”’s for my taste"

Maybe, Navigation Catalyst will sell you Steaknives.com for something lower than $ 18K. Since, it is less 1K figure around $ 15K.

Mike,

I am very different than most domainers when it comes to valuing names since I entered the online world as a developer only to fall into semi-full time domaining years later.

CampingSupplies.com is a great name and worth six figures for sure – but part of our valuation for buying product names – ones where we want to keep or develop - have nothing to do with age, ppc revenue, traffic and industry standard factors.

Its more semi-end user thinking – development in my world is cheap, very cheap – so usually the biggest cost is the domain. So for domains like this I’m thinking how many steaknives could someone sell a year … then if it comes to a reasonable amount of time to get that money back its done. I think this was a steal because in terms of online ordering 18k is not a lot of steak knives over a minor period of time and selling steakknifes online required no factory or R&D department – bulk buy or just drop ship.

I would compare this name to bobbleheads.com in terms of (a) popularity (b) ease of product fulfillment (c) product awareness and (d) ease of knowledge for someone interested in entering the business.

Why didn’t I buy it – There are about 5,000 names I want to own – I wish I could buy them all.

I’m probably alone but I never count who is on my team – just my thoughts.

Alan

We bought some domains, including campingsupplies.com which I bought for less than I sold steakknives.com for.

To me campingsupplies.com is a lot like sportinggoods.com, which sold a couple of years ago for something like $450K, a category killer, to sell everything camping, while steakknives is a great product its still just one product.

Michael,

If I had interest in steakknives I would have believe me but Mom never allowed to even lift a hammer growing up so I've been conditioned to stay away from sharp objects.
