Yep. Proxibid is hurting him for sure. I tried to log in during the auction and could not get access . I quickly signed up for a new account and tried to login with those credentials. No Dice! Just in case, I sent the login info to several other people via IM to see if it was just me. Nope not just me.

Tony

I agree with you. Domains are not livestock. Domains are more like collectibles and should be treated as such.

Just because your the worlds greatest car salesman, doesn't mean you can sell fine wines.

You make a great point, and I think you night be right. Today's auction is the meat and potatoes of the event.

G

I've said it before and still believe this to be true.

There is a difference, between listing a domain at a no or low reserve, in an largely unproven auction format, and doing so in an auction that has a track record of sales.

To date Rick Latona has yet to hit a million in sales (with the exception of the one sale, of one $1M domain) in any auction. More importantly he has yet to put on an auction where there has been a tremendous amount of competitive bidding, which is what it take to have a great auction.

I think you will see a different result today.

This is why many people will not dare to list premium names at a no reserve. I would be pretty disappointed right about now if I owned Shows.com.

On the other hand, I also had problems with Ricks system, and probably would have bid higher on a few of the names there, including shows.com.

So I got to watch the stream of the auction on domaining.com today. I think the cowboy auctioneers are a nice novelty but don't belong in domain auctions. Premium domains are rare and valuable assets. You'd expect rare and valuable assets to be auctioned of at Sotheby's or Christie's. That's the kind of atmosphere I'd expect.

As for the actual sales today, where have all the Big Hats gone? There was not a lot of competitive bidding even for the best of domains.

If I saw AntiqueAutoSales.com dropping, I'd have reservations backordering it for $59 and would try to get it for $7. How in the world does it sell for $2500?

The best bargains were SanJose.net for $7K, BreakfastBars.com for $1.3K and my personal favorite Gauze.com for $3750 (wow!).

Jamie

I agree Rick's system is hurting him. I tried to sign up the other day, put all the info in, including CC info and got an error message, that said someone would get back to me, but no one ever did.

I wonder how many other people had the same problem.

I think the online auction system Rick is using (I'm not even sure of the domain of the system as I write this) may be hurting his auctions a bit.

I agree, Shows.com buyer got a nice deal.
