Domainers need to grow up. If people on this blog are going to link their signatures to parked pages (click fraud) then maybe we deserve the beating.

Ed

Yahoo could have done so many things differently that would have changed the game.

I do not know what Baidu plans for the US are or if they are even considering such a move. Yahoo is a shareholder in Baidu.

Ask.com seems to have taken themselves out of the race a few months back.

I think the answer lies in the 4 possible things that could derail the deal that I posted about

I see nothing similar in the article you linked to ours except that they both are talking about Google and Yahoo.

Michael...
Couple of things.
Wouldn't Yahoo have been smart to mimick
Googles search page. I feel people want to go
to a page type in their request and get results.
Not check the weather,
celebs,
who's overweight,
who's divorced, etc...
just the facts.
Maybe " Yahoo Express " would be an option.
and...
Is Baidu a viable option to quietly invade
the US and be a thorn to Google??
is "Ask.com" done for??

thanks, Ed - Michigan
(I sure learn lots from you and your vast readership input.)

Tim,
I think that next Google is already in the form of a LeaseThis or Sendori model. Yes, the possible Google monopoly is not good for domain owners, but its likely worse for advertisers who will get less visibility and likely less value in a monopoly environment. Those advertisers would look for greater value elsewhere and likely to a LeaseThis or Sendori model where they would likely get more transparency and value.

It may be too early to even consider this but we could always take Google straight on by protest. Most of us rely on Google to send us part of our traffic because visitors have become accustomed to using it. Likewise Google needs our pages and sites to give itself relevant information for those searching for it. We could protest Google by using the one instrument we have to stop their bots and spiders from using our information; The ROBOTS.txt file. After all, search engines make their content from our pages. Here is an example:

User-agent: GoogleBot (bye bye)
Disallow: /*
Disallow: /images
Disallow: /virtual
Disallow: /search

User-agent: YahooBot (ba bye)
Disallow: /*
Disallow: /images
Disallow: /virtual
Disallow: /search

It basically tells Google and Yahoo to go away. I know that many top level domains could withstand this and others with less intuitive names would not. It sounds like suicide and I dreaming a bit but it would be one hell of a protest.

I think you are absolutely correct, and it is definately NOT a good thing for the Goog to just be so rampant on dominating the internet. They have grown too big, and it is shocking what they are trying to do. Although I believe Google is still at heart a decent company, so revenues may not see much of a decline unless they get really gready since the revshares now are just the icing on their cake.
