It's just percentages the rest is semantics, as for the value of cars.com /cars.co.uk if I was dealing cars in the UK I would see greater value in the .co.uk prefer the .ch though : )

Like all stats they can be twisted and turned to make the point of the person using them.

The only thing that surprises me here is how many low priced domain names of any extension sedo.com is selling.

I don't think there is any domain that was worth registering or buying in the first place that is not worth $2,500 in today's market.

There is no doubt that ccTLDs are doing great in their respective countries. I would never doubt the power of Nationalistic Marketing. However, I also believe the dotcoms Sedo is comparing to the UK tlds are mostly in the lower price range.

No one (even in the UK) is going to argue that Cars.com is not worth more than Cars.co.uk.

dot coms for the US, and dot co dot uk if you want to buy something that you want delivered. That may not be accurate according to many dot com businesses, but ask most folks on Ebay.co.uk and that will be their answer. I own domains in both flavors!

From a U.K. point of view, due to the shared language I tend to associate the .com to a United States company business. You chaps were way ahead of the rest of the world in registering domains ergo my association with the USA. The old trusted institution that is in most UK households bbc.co.uk defined the prefix .co.uk from the start

Woops! It was myrtlebeachcondorentals.com that was sold for $11,000 back in 10/07 not myrtlebeachcondos.com. Sorry for the mistake!

The way they are comparing prices is inaccurate. They are comparing the avg price sold of a .com now compared to the avg in the last 3 years. A more accurate way of doing it would be by domain.

I sell a few of my hand registered .com domains on Sedo for $250-$1000. That contributes to lowering the avg price sold but what I got for $7 turned into an avg of $500 within 6 months so how is that a decline in prices. Also, even what I consider to be bad domain purchases off eBay by me for less than $50 get sold for $270 or higher on Sedo.

Newyorkbiz.com was drop caught thru Snapnames back in March for $1050 and was resold on Sedo for about $27,800. Myrtlebeachcondos.com was sold few months back for about $12,000 and resold a couple of weeks ago for $120,000. And we are supposed to be in a recession? The .com market is still king!
