Next Big Money Drop Name: Clash.com

2008 May 21
by Michael H. Berkens

The domain Clash.com is dropping tomorrow and looks like it will be the next “big money” drop auction name.

Currently already at $7,000 at namejet.com in predrop bidding, this domain, which is dropping the old fashion way, not directly to any auction house, but is up for grabs.

If your interested get your backorder, in at all your favorite spots and good luck.

Curious how a domain can be deleted 2 days before it actually expires and not have the Registry kick in with RGP? This is a wierd one.

    3.1.6 Redemption Grace Period

A domain name is placed in REDEMPTIONPERIOD status when a registrar requests the deletion of a domain that is not within the Add Grace Period. A name that is in REDEMPTIONPERIOD status will not be included in the zone file. A registrar can not modify or purge a domain in REDEMPTIONPERIOD status. The only action a registrar can take on a domain in REDEMPTIONPERIOD is to request that it be restored. Any other registrar requests to modify or otherwise update the domain will be rejected. Unless restored, the domain will be held in REDEMPTIONPERIOD status for a specified number of calendar days. The current length of this Redemption Period is 30 calendar days.

Now this name had a whois on it at Moniker as recently as a week ago, making it impossible for it to have been in RGP at all… a strange whois, to be sure, but it was still at Moniker and not Deleteed. I see nothing in the Registry Operation Specifications that would even make this possible to do.

Anyone know anything about this name?

I’d tread carefully with this one. Whois history shows:

It’s definitely a Marchex name. AFAIK, they’re not one simply to walk away from legal confrontations.

Sounds like a good one for Xedoc Holding SA to go after. lol

They have had to fight for a domain a couple times… and it looks like it could be the case with this one as well.
