Yahoo to Restart Merger Talks with AOL

by Michael H. Berkens

According to reports today Yahoo is seeking to restart merger talks with AOL to fend off the Hostile bid of Microsoft which Yahoo rejected over the weekend.

The report says that the AOL merger is one option being considered by Yahoo, the others being an marketing deal with Google or Disney.

Yahoo and AOL previously failed to join forces because of differences over purchase price.

Last week in TheDomains.com we noted that Time Warner was considering selling or splitting off parts of AOL.

Yahoo’s board today is expected to announce that it has rejected Microsoft’s offer.

Microsoft is expected to increase it’s offer for Yahoo to at least the mid 30 dollar range this week.

Stay Tuned.

Yahoo has to say things like that to make it look like it has a good reason to reject Microsoft, doesn’t it. Otherwise shareholders can sue Yahoo! :)

I can also link to an interesting take on this from “A VC” blog here for anyone that’s interested:

Now here’s a merger (or however they’d label it) that I believe would benefit us domainers, PPC advertisers, and general Internet users as a whole (though I’d still like to see Steve Jobs lead the charge).

    I agree.

This would be much better than MSFT.

Steve Jobs would be even better, but no signs he has interest.

Meantime Microsoft shows no signs of quiting on this acquisition.
