Actually there are some catgory killers in every domain show auction, but they usually sell for much more.

Sportinggoods.com sold at the Miami traffic auction, a real category killer, but the price was like $495,000.

We buy a few names from domain show auction, but certainly not a lot. I would say less than 50 a year.

Most of our domains were acquired in days prior to the drop auctions, or in the early days of those auctions. Over the last couple of years we slowed way down on our purchases at auction as prices have risen.

We started registering names, back in 1997 and really went full time in 1999.

If I may ask, do you pick up most of your names at auctions or through other means? It just doesn’t seem like there are many “category killers” out there in auction.

I was the runner-up for testtubes.com at $14,250. It did not seem like there was a third bidder out there. In hindsight, the name is probably grossly undervalued where it sold. Congrats.

Congrats on the testtubes.com pickup! I was in the auction too but as you can see I was sleeping…LOL. I would have driven the price up more if I were there

Not sure what you paid for testtubes.com but it is name that meets the exact criteria we look for initially…product niche, specific exact words, KW Discovery of 1000+,value price (we like $14,000 or less right now, unless KW Discovery or other tool shows huge traffic, then forget the low-end price)
